Getting a Sport Pilot License... for the wrong reasons?

Talk about airplanes! At last count, there are 39 (and growing) FAA certificated S-LSA (special light sport aircraft). These are factory-built ready to fly airplanes. If you can't afford a factory-built LSA, consider buying an E-LSA kit (experimental LSA - up to 99% complete).

Have you considered just training in a regular (non LSA) airplane close to where you live? Getting a private pilot certificate would allow more flexability and you could then transition to a LSA afterwards.

Price.

Although there is some light at the end of the tunnel for me. There is a place in Bowie about 25 minutes away that is getting in a pair of Skycatchers early next year. And the Laytonsville Airport only 10 minutes away is looking for a way to get a sport pilot program going.

So right now I'm in waiting mode. But I'm very excited to start.
