Re: Fatal LSA crash in Iowa
X-Air seems to be some kind of derivative of Kit-Fox like plane ... the type of plane one would love to fly low and slow ...

$60K price tag with a Jabiru 85hp engine. Wide cabin and pretty nice load capability.

NTSB Preliminary Report.

The airplane was equipped with a Dynon EMS-D10 electronic engine monitor. The undamaged device was removed from the instrument panel and its non-volatile data was downloaded. A review of the recovered engine parameter data revealed consistent readings throughout the approximately 36 minute flight and no anomalies with engine operation. According to the engine parameter data, recorded at 10-second intervals, the engine was operating at a typical cruise power setting (2,850 rpm) before it experienced a sudden decrease of engine speed and oil pressure, consistent with an impact with a power line and terrain.

Condolences to the family and friends.
I forget the exact wording, but my old flight school had a sign up that said something like "Mind your altitude, lest something on the ground will reach up to smite thee."

10. Often shalt thou confirm thine airspeed on final lest the earth rise up and smite thee.

Actually, not at all similar. The Hanuman or X-Air was a clean-sheet design with a lot of ultralight elements, such as Dacron covering and aluminum tube construction. The Avid and Kitfox use a conventional steel tube construction for the fuselage. Externally it's easiest to look at the tail and ailerons. The tail of X-Air is conventional and is similar in outline to RANS Coyote, while all derivatives of Avid (such as Kitfox) have the tailplane sat very high on the tail, almost in a cruciform fashion. Also, Hanuman always had conventional ailerons, whereas Avid used Junkers-style flaperons.Warmi wrote:X-Air seems to be some kind of derivative of Kit-Fox like plane ....
