Looks like a loss of directional control for some reason. Maybe needed to hold the nose up for rough runway and dial more right rudder, adding some stick to keep wings level.

Once you're off runway, it's almost inevitable to find a gopher hole.

Do SP curriculum and PTS/ACS include landings on soft runways?

Yes, both short and soft. In his case he was a private pilot who had transitioned to light sport aircraft.
