Paul, I thank God you are okay.
Your Guardian Angel was watching over you that day.
I don't even want to think about what could have happened.

Everything considered, replacing that canopy and doing a thorough spar inspection are just minor inconveniences.

For me, that would be a life changing event.
Thanks for sharing that experience with us. Looking forward to your webinar.

Paul, goad you are OK!!
You mentioned TIS traffic.
Are you also full ADS-B IN and OUT?

Not yet, Richard. Soon! The upgrade was actually scheduled before my trip, and would have been completed by now, if the plane hadn't been in FL for repairs for 3 months!

ADS-B IN/OUT alerted me so many times of close proximity traffic in Florida. Always before VFR ATC.. IF they even called it.

Looking forward to your seminar...
and again so glad that you are OK.

Wow Paul - so glad you're OK as the synopsis in the magazine link (thanks Cluemeister) reads like it easily could have ended poorly. I really like the idea of the ADS-B in/out solution for this reason, especially in congested air space like over Los Angeles. (I'm flying with a Stratus 2 currently.) I'm signed up for your webinar this Wednesday.

RTK,
So far, how do you like the Stratus 2? Any disappointments?

Hmmm... hard to criticize an ADSB "in" solution as it gives more information than I had before. Downside is that it won't display all traffic... thus, it's no replacement for keeping your eyes scanning outside the plane. But it does allow use of the Synthetic Vision option for Foreflight for backup instrumentation (if you paid extra for synthetic vision.)

I also have SkyGuard out.
Stratus 2 in. ForeFlight.
Full service ADS-B traffic IN/OUT.
A+

If I understand you correctly, you are using both the SkyGuard and Stratus 2 with the iPad / ForeFlight tethered to the Stratus 2? Interesting as I'm well invested in ForeFlight and the iPad, but if adding the SkyGuard as a stand alone ADS-B Out, that makes things very interesting. Any model SkyGuard will work in this setup? (and sorry to thread-jack.)

My SkyGuard unit is the OUT ONLY TRANSMITTER.
It pings the FAA towers so I "participate" in the system and I am then served full ADS-B traffic.
The Stratus 2 receives ADS-B and sends the info to ForeFlight via wi-fi.

Love the ForeFlight and iPad.
Couldn't live without it!

Maybe it does deserve its own thread?

Here's the ADS-B thread.

Let's continue that conversation there, and preserve this thread for Paul's Midair topic.
