Thanks.

I had seen that, and we should be on the ground well before 6:15p - or at least that's the plan.

Fast Eddie and Cool Karen, headed home for GA this morning, made it as far as Knoxville TN before getting weathered in. Here (posted on their behalf) is why they decided to drive home from there:

Image

On leaving the Sky Arrow behind, Eddie said, "At least I got to go home in something Italian."

Glad you made it home safe Eddie.
That little Fiat is a cool rent-a-car with a little personality!
Next time Italian Ferarri!

Here's the motley crew:

From left to right, Prof Shuch, Richard (designrs), and your's truly.

Driving home, the view alternated between, "It's not bad, the sun is out and we probably could have flown..." to this:

Returning the car now and hopefully returning the little bird to her nest.

More pics and trip report to follow...

Here are some more photos that chronicle our trip...

Had to wait for the fog to lift just a bit at Copperhill on Thursday to get on the way...

Image

30 miles out from Mountain Empire, they were showing 200 OVC, but as we got closer it went to 400 OVC, then 600 BKN, then 800 BKN, then VFR by the time we got there, and always VFR where we were.

Arrived in Lock Haven around 3:30P, with plenty of time to get our rental car.

The little Sport Star is Professor Shuch's.

Prof Shuch was nothing but accommodating - got to meet his lovely family and he got to show off his pride and joy:

Image

Got to swap rides with him on Friday:

Image

Nice, solid little Light Sport with no "surprises", and I managed a squeaker on my first try!

Cool planes to look at, and not just Cubs:

Image

Karen was of the opinion that size does matter, at least when it comes to tires!

No shortage of Cubs, and Ken and Barbie arrived in theirs:

Image

Image

Image

Met Cirrus Owner Mike Bush as promised, who managed to get the movie working properly, albeit with the help of a 10-year-old and my reading glasses:

Image

Did not have a chance to fly - maybe next time.

On the way home, almost heaven (Elkins, W VA)...

Image

Flew clear of the storms to the west of the mountains, but could not make the turn towards home. Diverted to Knoxville, where we decided the wisest thing was to rent a car and drive the rest of the way - guess why!

Image

At least we would arrive home in something Italian!

Driving the 100 miles home it was 50/50 whether we could have made it, but views like this made it seem like we made the right choice:

Image

Finally drove the little Fiat 500 back to Knoxville Monday, beating the afternoon storms and got the our trusty bird home to her nest.

Plane seemed to want to go about 93k TAS @ 5200 rpm and 96k or 97k @ 5400 rpm. For some reason, my engine had always gotten a bit "coarse" right at 5400 rpm even with the carbs balanced, but it seemed smooth this flight. Roughly 5 gph overall. Only squawks were an occasionally recalcitrant nose up trim and my persistent tiny oil leak.

Anyway, great trip, got to meet up with old friends and make some new ones - sorry we couldn't meet up with more of you.
