OK. So I'm flying in from the South, hop over the mountain and down into KLHV. Will depart before the 6 PM airshow on Thursday. Can the professor recommend a safe and scenic departure? Thinking Southwest along the river, low if safe? Or are there some mega high-tension wires around there? Then hop over University Park class D, and the mountains, to head Souteast back home? Suggestions?

From here, Richard, the river actually turns north. Now, flying the river eastbound to Williamsport, and then turning right to follow it southbound past Harrisburg, would work fine. Just stay above the KIPT class D (which only goes up to 2500) and you'll be fine. You can also get flight following from NY Center, 134.8, and they'll hand you off to Harrisburg Approach if you wish.
Glad you're making this your solo XC. That means you're getting close to your license, no?

Thanks prof. Yes checkride very soon. Don't think I'd want to go North unless strongly recommended. How's the Southwest down to Univerity Park?

That could work. About four miles west of KLHV, there's a gap in the south ridge line, through which US 220 meanders. If you fly thru the gap at 2000 MSL or above, you arrive in a lovely valley filled with Amish farms. That valley is my flight school's South Practice Area, picked because of low traffic density and lots of open fields for emergency landings. (Amish fields are runways of choice, since they tend not to be bordered by power lines.) Interstate 80 runs E-W thru the middle of that valley, and you can follow it to State College. (If you're ambitious, you can follow it all the way to San Francisco.). Remember that KUNV is Class D, so check your sectional and pick an appropriate altitude over the top of it. Same NY Center freq. works for flight following.

See you Thursday, Richard. You're going to love the flight.

Not for me this morning - still shows down for maintenance.

Corrected - though the home page says that, links seem to work.

Last night my desktop still showed the front page as down (even with refresh). iPad showed the front page OK (with refresh). Subpages worked on both.

Weird. That was on my iPad using Safari and I think it was my visit to the site.

Just tried with FireFox, not used in months, and got the same message on the home page.

Eddie, it sounds as if maybe your ISP is serving pages out of its cache.

I can get into the site just fine, and I think I know what the problem is. The ISP at the KLHV end migrated the site to a new server, with a different IP address. My local Domain Name Server knows and directs to the correct IP adr, but I'm betting that hadn't yet propagated through the whole DNS network. So, your ISP's DNS is directing you to the old site, from whence the error message is originating. It usually takes a couple of days for IP changes to be picked up internet-wide. :(
