Paul,

In Order 8710.7 The Sport Pilot DPE Handbook it stated that a DPE of Sport Pilot was required to have 5 hours in the "set" before being able to do a practical test..(I think)

That order seems to have been replaced by 8900.2 that does not seem to say anything about this subject, only that "Candidates for designation as a Designated Pilot Examiner(DPE) must be technically qualified and must hold all pertinent category, class, and type ratings"

Can you clarify this issue please??

Brian

Yes the new DPE Handbook 8900.2 only requires 5 hours for multiengine, helicopter and type ratings not LSA/sport pilot any more.

See page 7-1 1 f 2 a if you need it in writting.

It is a requirement made clear at the DPE training by the FAA that the DPE needs to be proficient in all aspects of the airplane before conducting a practical test in it.
