Bryan Cobb's CFI Question

Post by bryancobb »

Hi Paul:

I am Bryan Cobb.
Commercial/Instrument Airplane SEL.
Commercial Rotorcraft/Helicopter
Flight Instructor Sport/Airplane/Tailwheel

Does my CFI/Sport (Checkride taken with a DPE) count FAA-Wise as my "INITIAL" Instructor's License so that if I go to get a CFI Rotorcraft/Helicopter add-on, I CAN take that checkride with a DPE, or do I have to do it with the "FED's?"

I know "usually" a person becoming a flight instructor must take their INITIAL CFI ride with the FED's but the Sport Pilot CFI thing may have gotten me out of that. Do you think so?

Bryan,
You must jump through all the hoops of taking a checkride with the feds or a qualified DPE to upgrade to Private/roto/heli.
Also, no such thing as helicopter sport. No add on.

Sorry. Even though your qualifications should do it, you must follow the basic procedures for CFI part 61 subpart H.
Paul is a Sport Pilot CFI/DPE and the expert for ASA who writes the books and produces the DVD's for all pilots flying light sport aircraft.
