Thread sealant

H. Paul Shuch is a Light Sport Repairman with Maintenance ratings for airplanes, gliders, weight shift control, and powered parachutes, as well as an independent Rotax Maintenance Technician at the Heavy Maintenance level. He holds a PhD in Air Transportation Engineering from the University of California, and serves as Director of Maintenance for AvSport of Lock Haven.

I am contacting the dealer about it but , in the meantime, wondering if you guys have some ideas on what kind of thread sealant this would be for this set of M8 screws ?

It is white, dried out feels almost like some kind of silicone compound but obviously it had pretty low viscosity when originally applied judgning by the stains ...

It is the front wheel fork attachment - 200 lbs torque per each bolt so I presume it is some kind of threadlocker/sealant combination.

Not directly applicable, but...
The Rotax maintenance manual and illustrated parts catalog specifiy the exact type of threadlock and torque they use on every fastener in their engines.
If the airframe maint manual and IPC don't specify for that part, I'd look for an M8 bolt in the Rotax engine that's torqued to 200 ft lbs, and use what they specify.

Thanks, I was actually thinking about using Loctite Blue ( 242) which is what Rotax recommends for their gear box installation ( with similar bolts , 195 inch lbs torque )

The typical repairs that utilize this type of medium strength threadlocker range from valve cover bolts to carburetor studs. This is known as our all-purpose threadlocker, and is also known as the “original threadlocker.” It eliminates the need for expensive lock nuts and lock washers, seals even when it vibrates, and protects threads from corrosion.
