Rotax engine registration check

One of the major problems in the field is owners don't register their engines. It makes no difference whether it is factory built or amerture built. The keeps you from any warranty help and even more important keeps you from getting any recall or SB notifications. So this is a must and only about 25% register their engines.

Here is a website where you can type in your engine serial number and it will tell you if it is registered. If it is great and if not either call the aircraft MFG or your regional Rotax Service Center and get this done.

What if it's registered to someone else? I presume it won't just let a person 'overwrite' the previous registration. Do they require a bill of sale or something? Just wondering... I'm not a Rotax owner.

If the engine was registered by a previous owner, you get this response after entering the serial number:

This Engine Serial Number is already registered
Engine Type: 912ULS
Registration Date: 2013-08-07
And then you're out of luck, because there's no option on that website to change the registration to the new owner. So, if you buy a used aircraft, make sure the seller will forward service bulletins to you when he or she receives them!

You can still get bulletins by just signing up on the Rotax-Owner website. You should be able to enlist the help of a service center to change the name.
