H. Paul Shuch is a Light Sport Repairman with Maintenance ratings for airplanes, gliders, weight shift control, and powered parachutes, as well as an independent Rotax Maintenance Technician at the Heavy Maintenance level. He holds a PhD in Air Transportation Engineering from the University of California, and serves as Director of Maintenance for AvSport of Lock Haven.

Fair question, Brian. I don't use them in my aircraft, for two reasons:

(1) I operate with 100LL, which has a longer shelf life than mogas.
(2) Even if I had mogas available, my flight school aircraft flies so frequently that fuel doesn't stay long in the tanks.

As for recommendations, I tell my maintenance customers who use mogas to go with the airframe manufacturer's recommendations. Some specifically prohibit additives, because of fuel system incompatibility (just as some prohibit ethanol). Others recommend specific additives.
