H. Paul Shuch is a Light Sport Repairman with Maintenance ratings for airplanes, gliders, weight shift control, and powered parachutes, as well as an independent Rotax Maintenance Technician at the Heavy Maintenance level. He holds a PhD in Air Transportation Engineering from the University of California, and serves as Director of Maintenance for AvSport of Lock Haven.

I have seen the split in color of the sparkplugs before as well. It even showed on a 25 hour inspection. From memory I though it was the rear cylinders that were darker, but I'm not sure.

That could well have been, Tom. Seems to me it would ve installation-dependent, and would vary with different cowling designs.
