Convoluted rules...

Finally, a place for sport pilot instructors and/or wannabees to talk about instructing.

Convoluted rules...

Post by Aerco »

I really hope somebody can answer me this hypothetical question;

I have done both written exams for Fundamentals Of Instruction and Flight Instructor -Airplane. In fact they will expire in October. Now, suppose I was to get my CFI-Sport Pilot checkride done and get that certificate in my pocket. Next year I start on my regular CFI (instrument, commercial and all that). The exams have expired, but I am a certified Sport Pilot CFI - will I have to take those same written tests again?

Any ideas?

The FOI should be locked in with the sport CFI, but the FI airplane will have to be taken over. IMO

Aerco,

The FAA honors the FOI test results, forever for all ratings it applies to.
Take it once...you're done!

The Sport Pilot Airplane CFI written is a DIFFERENT test than the CFI Airplane written. If you took your CFI Sport checkride today, and you CFI checkride tomorrow, you would have to produce a passing scoresheet for EACH of the two tests.

I concur with Bryan. That is also my understanding.
The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.
