It is great to see the number of sport pilot flight schools increasing. Something to think about if you are looking at a flight school...once your training is complete, you will undoubtedly want to take your check ride. A DPE is required to have 5 hours in make and model before giving the check ride. Therefore, make sure the flight school has a DPE lined up before you start your training. Also, make sure that the DPE and you will fit in the plane as far as weight & balance. I am hearing a lot about students getting training only to find there is no one to give them a check ride in the plane when they are done.
We have had good luck with the DPEs in our area. In fact, I just completed a check out on another one today. He absolutely loved the plane. This is a guy that flies relative heavy equipment. He commented that the plane really brought home want fun flying is all about!!
