Pipeline Question

While flying from Leesburg (JYO) to Lynchburg (LYH), I overflew the pictured pipeline. It looked like it presented many great emergency landing opportunities. Are there hazards I didn't see?

Given the view in your picture I think it would be the best choice. I know someone who has made a forced landing on a pipeline right of way, and there was not a better choice. It worked out well for him, as the airplane was undamaged from the landing.

There can be pumping stations right in the middle of that right-of-way, but they are usually painted white and can usually be readily seen from low altitude. Those pumping stations will often (almost always?) have electric lines nearby as well.
But as 3Dreaming said, it might very well be your "best available" choice.

I used to fly pipeline patrol, and out right of ways never looked like that. On the line I flew the pumping stations were about every 20-25 miles.
