VIRB Ultra 30 or GO PRO Hero 5 or 6? What say the collective? Looking for real-time experiences.

Ultra has support for handy visualization of various GPS data which is automatically synchronized with the video ... this is why I went with Virb but in terms of quality both are very comparable.
Personally I think Sony Action camera FDR‑X3000 is pretty much the best of the bunch ( I do have it, in addition to Virb ) but ,really, at that level you have to look long and hard to spot differences so what matters is convenience of editing, combining GPS data etc ... this is where Garmin wins for me personally.

Thanks Warmi, have you found a cable to let you record cockpit audio while charging/powering the unit? It’s my understanding it won’t do both at the same time, causing one to change batteries.

That's one problem with Virb cameras - especially given their limited battery ( mine lasts no more than 75 minutes or so .) - my Sony does better ( about 2 hours ) but yeah, with Virbit is a double whammy since you cannot charge and have the mic connected at the same time.
My solution is to swap batteries but it is a bit of a pain ...

BTW ... here is my Virb in action ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyLiQ1QYGaE&t=20s

Thanks for the info and the link. Looks like a really smooth flight.

I just hook up a 12V supply to my GoPro and then a 12V to my Ipad that I control it with in the cockpit. Then I have a 128G card in the camera. Then I have almost unlimited record time during any flight. Plus I can control the camera with my Ipad. Pictures, video on/off, even picture and video quality.

Thanks Roger, With my planes delivery a month or so away, I'm getting ready to purchase a camera. The Go-Pro seems the better of the two (virb) in the power department. I like the Virb, for its integration with my G3X displays.

BTW, I hope to grab the ROTAX maintenance course with you early next year, after I retire for good.
