Hello everyone I am thinking of putting an ADS-B in and out system in my Tecnam Sierra, can anyone give me some guidance on what products to buy?

I'm installing the Garmin Aera 660 and GDL 39R for ADS-B IN, and the GDL 82 for ADS-B OUT. The GDL 82 is a UAT with built-in WAAS GPS; it uses your existing Mode C transponder (in my case, a GTX 327). The GDL 82 sells for $1800.

My installation is similar to ShawnM's described toward the end of this thread: http://www.sportpilottalk.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3425.

I just went to my IA renewal seminar this week. There was a presenter there who deals with certification for installation of new products in aircraft. He said that if you haven't done anything yet you should wait about 4 months. The inference is that there is some new product coming that will be worth the wait.

Garmin just announced a replacement for the GDL 39 called the GDL 50.

As Stan pointed out I have the GDL-39 3D for dual band ADS-B IN and the new Garmin GDL-82 for ADS-B OUT. My Aera 660 is my display for all traffic. I also have the GTX-327 for my transponder like Stan has.

Keep in mind the GDL-82 does not work with modes S transponders. (ie GTX-328 or GTX-330)

I think the Garmin GDL-82 is the best thing going for the price and ease of installation. I drank the Garmin Kool-Aid a long time ago.

The setup works awesome and I was able to get the $500 rebate when it was available. I bought my GDL-39 3D used and the $500 rebate paid for it.

There are other less expensive options but they dont have the Garmin brand recognition. Besides all my other avionics are also Garmin. See what I mean about the Kool-Aid?

Can’t tell how is it different - it is still only ADSB in + AHRS , just as GDL39....

I will look into all the suggestions, I am also looking at a 796 Garmin with a GTX 345 pricey though.

Many LSAs have pretty limited panel space. My Zodiac came with a GPSmap 396, and the Aera 660 fits in the same panel space as the 396, but because it has a touch screen and uses soft keys instead of hard keys, the display is much larger than the 396 display. For my panel, the 796 is just too big and the 660 is perfect.

Thanks for the info on the 660 I think this will fit the bill perfect and at a much lower cost. I will link up with the 345 and I can get it in a bundle.

Yes Ray, the 660 will do everything the 796 will in a smaller footprint and smaller price tag. It's an awesome unit.

If you have piles of cash laying around the GTX-345 is a great unit for both in and out in one box.

I paid about $1900 for both my GDL-82 and my GDL-39 3D (bought it used from a fellow pilot), that is with my $500 rebate from the FAA.

Thanks Shawn, that is one good looking panel. I have ordered the GTX 345 and the 660 combo from Garmin for a big discount. My Transponder died the other day so a little more money but I am set for a very long time and I am now 2020 compliant.

Care to share the discount you were given on the 345 and is it available to others?

Thanks for the complement Ray. I'm very happy with my panels and equipment now. They didn't look like this when I bought the plane.

That's awesome you were able to get a discount on the 345. I know they were offering a discount on the 335 at one time and I considered it briefly.

The 345 is an awesome unit and you'll love it. Of course so is the 660. You'll have a nice, clean install and be ready for 2020.
