Hey y’all,

I’m involved in a flight school that primarily trains with Rotax 912’s. We are thinking we’ve had a bad batch of gas lately. We are using 93E10 but are wondering if there is a cheap way to check the quality of the gasoline we are buying. Any ideas? Also, how hard would it be to bring Swift fuels to a specific location for a flight school? Thanks everybody!

What are you looking to test it for? Back in the day when my dad worked at the fuel farm at NAEC Lakehurst they use to test the fuel for sediment and water. They would suck a sample of fuel through a filter. One filter would fluoresce under a black light if there was water in the fuel. They used a photometer with the other filter to see how much light passed through it as a means of checking for sediment. I would hope that they have some more efficient means of doing this today.

Pretty easy to test. Let me add that having delt with poor fuel issues in the logging business a few times, cheap suppliers may not be the best, high dollar may not be the best either. Go with a reputable company that has a lot of clientele in your area. More turnover in their tanks or trucks generally will mean issues like fuel age (especially in ethanol based fuels) and contamination have less time to manifest themselves. Just my 2 cents dealing with diesel suppliers.
