Anyone hear from MacAttack?

Postby Merlinspop » Mon Aug 28, 2017 6:48 am

Having grown up in Southwest Louisiana, I have many friends still in that area and across SE Texas. Many have checked in, some with news of terrible flooding and in my thoughts and prayers for their safety, I started thinking about Mac. Hope he got his Astore out to high ground before Harvey arrived.

I hope everybody in the Gulf Coast area stays safe. From experience I can say those storms are nothing to mess around with. Here's a video of our two-ship arrival in MVFR conditions under pretty low ceilings, literally arriving in Victoria, TX as Patrica hit a couple of years ago. The rain started as I cleared the runway and didn't stop for three days. We lucked out with the timing, except for having the rather grumpy female controller in the tower.

Hey guys! I'm here and safe. Actually I am in Southern California visiting my oldest daughter - was a planned visit but now the unplanned part is that I may not be able to get back to Houston for a while. My turf field next to the brazos river is at a higher elevation so it has stayed dry and drained well. My home is dry but no power (and my neighbor is benefiting from my newly-installed nat gas generator!). End of my street, however (along Gessner if any of you folks know it) is well under water and they have had helicopter and boat rescues in my area. But my part of the street is a bit of an island ... so far so good.

I've been in touch with many friends, neighbors and pilots throughout Houston and most are ok but some have had to relocate to shelters. It's a disaster of epic proportions so please say prayers for everyone. The focus of heavy rain will shift north and east into Louisiana over the next couple of days but it's still raining in Houston.

Thanks for checking in guys!!!

Thoughts and prayers go out to you folks down in the Houston area. We are getting some bands here in Central Louisiana... Thus far 5" in my gauge today, some minor flooding only thus far.
