Yesterday was interesting

Post by rcpilot »

Haven't been able to do any flying for the past week and a half, mainly because my electric fuel pump took a sh*t(and because I have some family things going on). Yesterday I go to the airport with my 5 y.o. daughter to get her out of my wife's hair. My plan was just to clean off my plane since as far as I was aware the fuel pump hadn't been replaced(my regular mechanic moved back to Texas and I was at the mercy of the school's shop. Turns out it's bolted to the firewall but they apparently didn't use blind nuts so it was going to be a 2 person job and that was delaying it.) I see the box with the fuel pump still on the front seat. Luckily I look and see that it's the old pump. I check "under the hood" and verify the new pump is there and appears to be all hooked up. So I flip on the switches and verify I get fuel pressure. So I clean off the plane, remove the tie downs and do my pre-flight inspection. I ask my daughter if she wants to go for a ride(silly question). I strap her in, put on her headphones, hop in and start my checklist. Taxi out to the active, do my run up, wait my turn(it was a bit busy for late on a Saturday) and off we go. Did one trip in the pattern just to make sure everything is good, then my daughter wanted me to fly out along the beach. Made a little trip along the beach and back to the airport. My wife didn't want me to take my daughter in the plane but she let me off with a warning. Life is good.

Sounds all good. All's well that ends well. Show your wife this video

and remind her that flying is much safer than riding a bicycle.

Or....maybe you shouldn't :?

She might never let her out of the house again!

I hate to second guess anyone but wouldn't a test run on the ground followed by a shutdown/inspection been a better way to do this before strapping your daughter in for the test flight?
