Training and Filing IFR in an LSA?

I hadn't thought it was possible and I wouldn't want to fly an LSA through hard IFR, but could be helpful to get through a layer. I flew home from Kansas City yesterday and I wouldn't have had to wait three hours for the ceiling to lift in Los Angeles if I could have filed.
