Commercial Rating in an LSA?

Post by cogito »

I've been planning on getting a commercial rating but wasn't looking forward to the expense of training and taking practical test in a complex aircraft. Now I see there's an FAA notice of proposed rule making allowing for training/testing for commercial to be done in a TAA, which my plane would qualify.

Any thoughts other than the FAA can take forever to do anything?

This may indeed happen, but only if lots of us provide supportive responses to the NPRM. My current primary trainer is an SLSA which is also equipped as a TAA. I use it currently to instruct toward SP, PP, and Instrument rating, and can see no reason why it couldn't be used for CP as well, if the proposal is approved.
The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.

I think if it did happen it might make many of the LSA aircraft more attractive to the mainstream FBO's.
