Can't see SportPilot's posts

Constructive topics of interest related to aviation that do not match the other section descriptions below (as long as it is somewhat related to aviation, flying, learning to fly, sport pilot, light sport aircraft, etc.). Please, advertisements for Viagra will be promptly deleted!"

Can't see SportPilot's posts

Post by ANewHope »

Whether I'm logged in or just browsing, I can't see some posts, like SportPilot's show up as ". . . "

Why is that? Nobody here knows me to block me yet. Just curious. I see his responses when others quote him in their response.

I guess the best explanation is that SportPilot periodically gets, well, perturbed, and goes back and deletes posts.

I've pointed out it seems kinda rude, but I guess they're his intellectual property, so it's his right. Also kinda odd, in that I don't think I've stumbled upon behavior quite like this before.

Many forums set time limits to modify posts, for this very reason, among others, I suppose. This one does not seem to, so view SportPilot's posts as ephemeral, and enjoy/benefit from them while ye may. Dust in the wind, and all that!

And a few of us have tried to make light of this practice by engaging in short dialogs consisting of nothing but "..." .

Regardless, nothing wrong on your end.

Ephemeral.... Dust in the wind ... Making Monday morning philosophical! And thanks I had wondered about those ellipses myself ...

You shouldn't feel lonesome, SP. Your faithful moderator is an unabashed political liberal, but a somewhat conservative pilot.

I am one of the three member of which he speaks. He has not liked me since day one when he started posting, because I challenged something he said. He may think I am singling him out, but I will challenge anyone if I think what has been said is not correct. This is especially true when it comes to a subject I am passionate about, like light sport aviation. .

That's not why I don't like you. I want to be challenged when I post something that is incorrect. I don't like being challenged when posting opinions. I think my main run in with you was political, but I don't remember. Now, the three of you just harass me every time I post. This thread is an example. I didn't mention you, but you chose to chime in.
I have always tried to keep my post polite, and never considered them harassing. I am sorry if you have felt that way. Just because someone quotes you and shares a differing opinion doesn't mean they are attacking or harassing you. Both you and I are or have been active posters on this forum. Our paths will undoubtedly cross from time to time. We share experiences in many different aspects of aviation, and are willing to offer our opinions openly. As with all things aviation those opinions will often differ. I sometimes have differing opinions with other members on this forum, and I share my opinions with them also. If you have a different opinion than mine I am OK with that. I don't take it personally. That is the big difference between you and me.

While you have had political run ins with many others on this and CT Flier forum, I was not one of them. In my opinion trying to discuss politics on a open for is an exercise in futility.

I guess we should all keep in mind how some members may personalize their politics, in such a way that almost any little innocent comment can be perceived as a slight.

I try to keep my politics out of discussions not related to politics. When I do pipe up, I try to do so with some modicum of humor.

For instance, my first inclination was to say that other forum member's should treat SportPilot's posts as if they were emails on Hillary's personal server - no telling when they might vanish! I'd like to think those on both sides of the aisle might at least grin a little at the comparison. But then I remembered how seriously some take this stuff, so I refrained.

Proud of me?

SportPilot wrote:Or, I could say only a racist would support Trump, but I won't. Yes, it's best not to discuss politics here. What a person on one side of the aisle calls a little innocent comment with or without humor added can be very offensive to someone on the other side of the aisle.
That is one of the reasons I try to avoid anything of political nature on the forums, especially when dealing with you. There have been a few times when you went off on someone for a political comment, when I had a hard time making the connection.

I think the take home message for all of us here is: this is an aviation forum. There are plenty of other places on the Interwebs to discuss (or argue) politics.

I would respectfully disagree Paul. The issue is not politics, or that both people are wrong, and we all need to get along.

The problem is always:

SportPilot mad at Member A - SportPilot deletes his posts.
SportPilot mad at Member B - SportPilot deletes his posts.
SportPilot mad at Member C - SportPilot deletes his posts.

Rinse. Lather. Repeat.

Regardless of who's mad at whom, and who disagrees with what, the fact is that anyone's posts are his or her intellectual property, to share or delete as the poster sees fit. It may indeed be bad form, or impolite, or whatever any one of us may say about it, but I regard any post or deletion here as a first amendment freedom that I am disinclined to abridge. So let's all just suck it up and get on with the aviation business at hand.
