My philosophy on updated versions of anything:
- The earliest adopters are the best at finding the bugs that the developers missed. Unless you want to be an unpaid beta tester, hold off until the early reports are in from users "in the wild".
- The latest adopters are chickens, unless the early adopters found some nasty ones.
- With most apps, in addition to advertised new features, every update secretly fixes things that were wrong with previous versions, sometimes VERY wrong things.

So, watch for the initial reports and see if anyone uncovers anything bad. No one wants their mobile device turned into a paperweight. But after it's been out a few weeks and nothing untoward is revealed, you can feel pretty safe to update.

As a software developer I can't argue with any of Merlinspop's assessment. I'll add that when there are a lot of new features, be doubly cautious. Unless you desperately need the new features or have the time and means to test it yourself, I recommend waiting a week or so to make sure no really bad bugs made it through. The flip side, when you see an update where the comments just says bug fixes, consider it a good thing. It means the vender is honest and willing to go the expensive of putting out an update (and it is expensive) to make things right for the customer.

Honestly, I have updated Garmin Pilot every time a new build comes out, and have never once found a bug.

They make very polished code.

You've been very lucky so far, Andy. You might choose not to push your luck any further, as next time it could possibly brick your iPad.
