The amount of time that this third-class medical waiver has taken is appalling. I have never seen such a long and draw-out process of uncertainty. Absolutely nauseating!

Stupid question. If you just got a clean bill of health, why not get a medical now and get back to flying larger aircraft?

Does everyone think if it gets past the House and Senate the President will sign it? Hate to get that far and have it get vetoed!

I can't think of any reason for the president to not sign it. With user fees and ATC privatization no longer on the table, there's nothing controversial in there.
The opinions posted are those of one CFI, and do not necessarily represent the FAA or its lawyers.

Very good question. Nothing would surprise me.

You are obviously safer based on talent as a pilot. I wouldn't fly with me right now. :)

But if you want to make the claim you are medically as safe, that's just not so. Just as I am not as medically safe as a 20 year old. There's a reason medical and life insurance rates go up significantly with age, as the risk goes up significantly.

Looks like another step forward according to AVweb.

Sport Pilots act as PIC in the same airspaces. The only one we are prohibited from is Class A. The FAA has never evaluated me. I like it that way. :D

I would fold that into "any airspace over 10k", but okay. My point was that a SP can act as PIC in every *type* of airspace except Class A, which seems counter to your point of the FAA wanting to have a medical peek at *every* PIC. Also true for glider pilots, who can also go into Class A IIRC.
