Good idea.

Obamacare only costs the Taxpayers $1.2 TRILLION dollars.

Let's just ignore that in Congress and worry about a bill that might effect what? 3000-5000 pilots?

This might be a good time to suggest that we refrain from naming specific politicians, political candidates, political parties, and/or policies unrelated to aviation, which could start endless political discussion and alienate 50% of the forum community, regardless of whatever political view is stated or implied.

That said, I'd sure like to see 3,000 to 5,000 pilots benifit from medical exemption.
Is the number of pilots effected really that small?

Thanks, Richard, for beating me to the punch. I agree, this is an AVIATION forum!

There are approximately 5000 Light Sport Pilot Certificates out there. What % are still flying, considering a reasonable % of them got their LS Cert. in their 50's-60's?

I think there are approximately 175,000 pilots who hold a PPL or "lower" certificate.

As far as the Medical issue goes, we're typically talking only about pilots over the age of about 50. So if we eliminate most pilots under 50-55 and eliminate those who aren't active any longer ... how many could be left?

& I think a lot of people forget, how many pilots would continue to fly Light Sport, regardless of the PBOR2 ... I know I would.

Well, PBOR2 took a big turn and the DL Medical portion is now include in HB 4441 FAA Reauthorization Act (Section 417). It is interesting that the House version is back to the original Driver's License medical/education process with no requirement to see your own doctor every 4 years. Full text:

This is the Bill that includes ATC Privatization and user fees which is heavily opposed by many of our Congress critters. Don't know about the chances of Section 417 surviving when the bill is carved up.

Considering how firmly opposed most of the aviation industry is to ATC privatization, and how much opposition there was to the original DL medical proposal, might this insertion have been intended as a poison pill to kill privatization?

Could be or it could be the exact opposite in that privatization was the poison pill to kill the medical reform. Politics are clearly coming into play :(

Agreed, but "should be" doesn't necessarily mean "will be."

Yes, I noticed that too. Could be a very good thing for many of us.
