Re: Mooney Diesel Two Seater Debuts
Attractive plane. Not too shabby inside either.
Re: Mooney Diesel Two Seater Debuts
If they're certified for IFR/IMC, then they'll have a winner methinks...

Ummm... Isn't diesel fuel hard to come by on a cross-country, or even at most GA Airports?
Re: Mooney Diesel Two Seater Debuts
The diesel will run on JetA. Avgas is more readily available here in the states, but Jet fuel is more available around the world.designrs wrote:Ummm... Isn't diesel fuel hard to come by on a cross-country, or even at most GA Airports?

Re: Mooney Diesel Two Seater Debuts
In the Asian aviation marketplace, 100LL is almost in the same fuel category as Unobtanium.

Re: Mooney Diesel Two Seater Debuts
So are diesel's equally happy and healthy on both fuels?
Or is there a trade-off someplace like we have with 100LL vs. MOGAS?

Re: Mooney Diesel Two Seater Debuts
I wish I could burn Jet A in my Roxax... just to smell the money!

Re: Mooney Diesel Two Seater Debuts
JetA is a high grade kerosene, and different from diesel. That being said I have heard several report of airports using JetA in their diesel powered equipment. Contrary to what CTLSi says a turbine aircraft engine will burn almost anything that is flammable and in liquid or gas form.designrs wrote:So are diesel's equally happy and healthy on both fuels?

Re: Mooney Diesel Two Seater Debuts
Generally, when referring to aviation diesel engines, the reference is to the combustion cycle, not the fuel, although in some engines the fuel will work, too.

It is just like you to try and twist something into something it is not.CTLSi wrote:Jet-A kerosene and Diesel #1 are the same thing.3Dreaming wrote:JetA is a high grade kerosene, and different from diesel. 1. Jet-A is a relatively high sulfur fuel, diesel is low sulfur
2. Jet-A is “dry.” Diesel is made in such a way, or additives are mixed in, to lubricate the injector system of a diesel engine
3. Jet-A is closer to kerosene and Diesel #1. Most modern diesel truck engines specify Diesel #2
4. Jet-A and Diesel #1 tend towards lower viscosities than Diesel #2

Contrary to what 3DDreaming understands is that turbines will burn peanut oil if you ask it too, so what... the CD-155 is not a turbine engine.
My comment was in response to this comment you made, "But not all aviation engines that burn Jet-A will also burn straight non aviation diesel fuel." If the CD-155 and other diesel engines will burn diesel fuel, and turbine engines will burn diesel fuel. What other aviation engines out there that burn JetA will not burn diesel fuel?
