Central Louisiana weather cleared finally after three days of rain and high wind. Temps in the low 40's, I can report the Tecnam P92 cabin heat works really well. The winds were moderate 5-8 at first and we practiced a few take offs and landings, soft field, and short field. He checked his phone for the METAR then we cleared the active so a Cirrus could land. He said to stop and he hopped out. His only words "time to kick you out of the nest, fly the pattern a few times if you want.". That was it, flew 20 minutes alone and lost the back of my shirt!

My divorce was caused by a wife who lost her shirt too often.

My ex lost her pants too often, Andy. But this should probably be on another thread. Besides, that was 27 years ago...

Mine was over a decade ago, which is why it can now be laughed about! :D

That is why I can't buy a plane today! They say it is "cheaper to keep her" if I did that I would be flying in a rubber room.....

This is either funny or it could be deadly serious whichever you choose I found it interesting so I'll share. I was up yesterday with the CFI, winds were "howling" by LSA standards at 12 gusting to 20 from 170 fine for 2L0 since its runway is 18/36, unfortunately not solo X-country weather again, but excellent cross wind practice since ESF has 9/27. Pretty bumpy but manageable. As we are leaving the CFI said let's clear the airspace, there is a guy expected to leave that has a Cirrus, he's got more money than skill and I don't want to fly around him. I thought that was pretty odd. I'm focusing on a x-wind landing when a radio call comes in from a Cessna on long final for runway 18 at 2LO, not my traffic so I let that mentally slide, but what I hear a few seconds later perks my ears: "Cirrusxxxx departing runway 36" wait did I just hear that right? The CFI and I look at each other, I'm sure the Cessna freaked out, because the next call was from him "you said you are DEPARTING 36!!!" " Affirmative Cirrusxxxx is departing 36" Cessna: "are you out of your mind? Cessnaxxx 5 miles out at 1500' turning out to the east." "Cirrusxxxx you should be fine I'll just extend" "Cessnaxxxx you'll what?!?!" Next radio call was from the Cessna asking where the Cirrus was, he was clear so the Cessna was able to land. Needless to say the CFI and I had a topic of discussion for the rest of the flight, including how its pretty dumb to have picked 36 since the windsock is literally staring you in the face at the hold line and there are some tall trees on the north approach that can cause serious issues if you can't get her airborne and climbing fast enough.

Well, made a trip back to where it all began, in a manner of speaking. As some of you know I finished my training and got my sport license at the beginning of last December. One of the things I've wanted to do was fly from my homebase, Brookhaven, NY(HWV) to the Lakewood, NJ airport(N12). As I recall when I was 12 or 13, my mom's boyfriend treated my mother, my brother and I to an airplane ride. He wasn't a pilot, he just use to go for rides with his kids. Being the oldest (kid) I got to sit in the front and the pilot let me take the controls for a bit. More than anything, I think this experience cemented my desire to learn how to fly. Only took me 40+ years. :) So, for sentimental reasons, I wanted to fly there. As it turns out I met a fellow Zenith owner online(he finished building a Zenith 650 last year) who is taking lessons for sport pilot at Lakewood. I had hooked him up with the DPE that gave me my exam as he was having trouble finding someone. Hopefully he'll be taking his check ride soon. So I planned out my route, not going to do flight following, just fly along the South shore of Long Island, under the JFK Class B, scoot over the water to Sandy Hook and then a straight line to 12N. Off in the distance I see NAEC Lakehurst. MY dad worked there over 30 years and we had gone to more than a few airshows/open houses there when I was a kid. Of course this was also my first time landing at a "strange" airport. Had to go around the first time as I just didn't allow for a long enough final and this runway is half the length of what I'm use to. Land, taxi over to the "terminal" and there's my online friend. We chat, I show him my plane and then we go up for a short ride. We plan to meet again at KABE where his has his plane and I head home. As I pass under the JFK class B I have my radio tuned to the tower. I get a couple of honorable mentions(as they tell people to watch out for the plane flying along the shore at 300'). I get back to HWV, gas up(just 9 gallons for 3 hours) and park. Another item off my bucket list. Now what's next?

I fly (mostly) Cubs. Only 11 gal usable. Anything more then an hour and a half and I need to be parked next to a fuel pump or I'm going to be walking home.
Every trip is a marathon, (time, not distance) and every trip is an adventure.
Life is great.
