Looks like the spirit of innovation is rather focused in Europe these days, at least as far as LSA engines are concerned.
EAA reported that ICP (makers of Savannah that was discarded by Skykits for WAC) is coming out with a new 80hp engine. Get this: V-2 layout, 7000 rpm. Basically, a motorcycle engine with a reduction drive.

It's going to be installed on Savannah, which is still being sold in USA by Boomerang, apparently, even after Skykits bolted.
Another crazy engine is D-motor, which is being installed on BOT (yet another CTLS-lookalike from Belgium). 4-cyl, liquid cooled, direct-drive engine using a flathead architecture. Man, those Europeans sure love their streamlined cowlings and pointy noses.
And of course the old ULpower (weird to think about them as "old", but) comes up with a mysterious UL318i for factory installation on Bristell. Of course we all know what UL makes: a better LyConti than LyConti: air-cooled 4-cylinder boxer engine, only with FADEC.
Meanwhile, in U.S.A.? Honda conversions, WV conversions, and... Deltahawk.
D-motor, ICP, and other Euro engines

Re: D-motor, ICP, and other Euro engines
I owned a 2008 savannah adv built by skykits USA. It was a fantastic airplane; well designed by ICP with amazing airfoils and beautifully built and supported by skykits. I visited the ICP factory in Italy and i know the the mgmt at Skykits (now at WorldAircraft Company) I believe skykits and ICP just went their separate ways. Your post, indicating skykits dumped the savannah was a gross mischaracterization of the split up. I'm certain that the new series of engines from ICP will be a serious contender in the LSA mkt. The new innovative LSAs from World Aircraft Company seem to be perfect examples of what the Light Sport legislation tried to engender. a much better characterization of the split would be to say that both parties benefited from their parting. we in the LSA community will end up with a better choice of engines from ICP and airplanes from WAC

Here's another one: MW Fly. Geared 2:1, water cooled, 4 cylinder. Available in U.S. through a Canadian company that makes Bushcaddy.

Re: D-motor, ICP, and other Euro engines
Just to inform that today, December 18, 2014 the ICP M09 engine flew for the first time
Re: D-motor, ICP, and other Euro engines
Meanwhile, in France...

Looks exceedingly similar to M09 in configuration. However, they promise significantly higher power output: 136 hp off 1.2L, whereas M09 only takes 80 hp off 1.225L. The rated rpm is the same, about 7000. I suspect that the French jacked up compression sky-high and they'll only run on high-octane fuel.
