I wouldn't consider putting a dog in a 2-seat plane unless it was in a crate that was secured. Or if I knew the dog well, one of these K9 automotive harnesses that could secure the dog to the seatbelt and shoulder harness. There shoud not be ANY way for that dog to contact ANY flight control.

...that's just your opinion, man!
One that I would agree with however, and think was patently obvious.
And yet ussyorktown revels in the fact that three other pilots said he did everything right!

So far the voting is split. We'll have to wait for Gallup's poll and the NBC Wall Street Journal Poll but wait for the end of runway bounce. Lessons learned.
Like, let the one who has never done something stupid with the rudder and stick please step forward.
20/20 hindsight.
By the way, you should go to http://www.pilotsnpaws.org and do some dog rescues. Why? Better than the $100 hamberger because your gasoline, food you buy for yourself, dog harness is tax deductable as a charitable expense. Also you get kids thanking you and sometimes get to meet pretty young women who also thank you.

I'll do this next time I get a big dog. This looks good for $19.95 and free shipping: {Notice that the dog has taken over the left seat here}one of these K9 automotive harnesses that could secure the dog to the seatbelt and shoulder harness

But Dan, aviation safety is not a democracy.ussyorktown wrote:So far the voting is split.
And that, my friend, should have been the title of your original post. If this really was a learning experience, then we all benefit from you sharing it with us. Since it was presented as an heroic adventure story, your purpose in posting was less than clear.Lessons learned.

Oh for Pete's sake. I'm 63 years old. I'm glad to learn from you all but you have made mistakes and I made a mistake. I unhooked her neck from the right seat back as she was sleeping. I did not anticipate that she would come alive when I descend, nor could any of you fortune tellers. My fifth dog rescue and my second big dog. No problems till Bry.

You are right we all make mistakes. Maybe we read back a clearance and then fly something different, that would be a mistake.
What we see in your rescue operations are lack of foresight and a lack of common sense that will eventually come back and bite you.
Your arguments don't wash. 20% of your dog flights were nearly fatal ( in your words ) and you see that percentage as a positive?
Its a bad idea to throw around such words and phrases as "Deadly" and "nearly fatal" far better to be analytically and realistic. From some pilot's point of view your perceptions of these concepts and the need to use sound judgement to avoid them is quite skewed. Romanticizing and departing farther from reality can lead to more bad judgement.
Why don't you learn how to disconnect the right stick?
I won't fly a human being in my CT without assessing the likelihood of control loss due to their behavior.

Oh for Pete's sake! 20/20 hindsight doesn't make you a genius (to paraphrase Clint Eastwood). Having read your unanchored preaching I can safely stay away from Church for the rest of the year.
I shall refer you to my previous comments and I shall give your opinions all the weight to which they are entitled.
(Now Clint...don't say that again!)

You've made your point -- now just let it go, Dan. You're not going to win any converts here.

Yes! That's what I was talking about Dan. Glad you found it!ussyorktown wrote:This looks good for $19.95 and free shipping:
You will still have to watch the paws don't hit something.
(this still is not completely safe) but at least the dog will stay in his seat!
Personally, if I were going to fly rescue. I'd find the biggest dog crate that I could secure safely in my aircraft and tell rescue, "I can only take animals that can fit in that box. Otherwise, you really need to find an aircraft that can hold a larger crate in the back seat."
