Craig's Jabiru deadstick post

Constructive topics of interest related to aviation that do not match the other section descriptions below (as long as it is somewhat related to aviation, flying, learning to fly, sport pilot, light sport aircraft, etc.). Please, advertisements for Viagra will be promptly deleted!"

Craig's Jabiru deadstick post

Post by zaitcev »

This was going around a bit recently:
http://www.craigr.com/2011/11/09/forced ... he-jabiru/

"So we’ve owned two Jabiru engines: One that failed catastrophically after 60 hours, and one that failed catastrophically after 2.5 hours and again after 480 hours."

Pete, as you probably know Yahoo has a jabiruenginesgroup message board that generates a lot of daily discussion on the Jabiru engines. Two of the topics that seem to generate the most heat (sorry, could resist...) are, first, Jab engine overheating problems and, second, denials that Jab engines have overheating problems.

Many of these engines are installed in homebuilt a/c with a lot of 'individual engineering' so I suppose some problems are understandable, given all the test pilots and unique a/c involved. Still, it is one of the more schizophrenic aviation discussions I've seen...
