Sounds great k7, you got a date!

We'll fly over the hump to pahrump and go to Heidi's salon, visit the chicken coop, a winery, down a few dozen brews.

There is a great landing strip right down the middle of Sandy Valley, the kid on a pleasure cruise with me just had to try it, after touching down, he said, man that was the most narrow strip I ever put it on.

On a more serious note, when you really think it over, the landing, the actual seconds before touchdown, is essentially precision flying. This is the least amount of wiggle room we have. We we are up in sky, we can bounce all over the place in the soup, as Wolfie Langescheishe says in Shtick und Rudder.

The landing is the precision of the flight, and when you can put it down softely, and straight, you got it. It's the dot at the end of the sentence, but it takes the most concentration and skill.

In any case, if you come up here, fly over Searchlight, and the hills to your left will bring you right into KHND, you'll pass over a graveyard, Geezer village retirement community and sanitarium, that is where I'm buried.

see ya

Hope and Change

Post by scottj »

I am starting to understand you, and your sense of humor. There might be hope for you yet. Interesting cross country destinations.

Scotty, being from the east, flying out here is spectacular, no doubt about it.

A fun flight out of KHND will take you over brown mountains, mesas (good place to dump bodies) use by casinos for card counters (does feed the coyotes though) desert, rivers, snow capped peaks, a place where skydivers are ferried out where you have to watch out for the landing area, a glider operation down at the touch and go practice area, small parasail craft, which can be dangerous for a pilot since you really can't tell if the craft is self propelled or being towed by a ground vehicle.

This is all within ten mininutes or so of leaving KHND.

The parasail craft was IMHO, if he was tethered to a vehicle, run by an idiot. Knowing all the craft coming out of KHND, he should have picked a more remote place, since you can't see the line tween the truck pulling him and the parasail craft. The kid and I were trying to figure it out, but decided to hightail it out of there.

I may be a joker and kidder, but I do like safety and just using common sense. Perhaps I'm the anal one!

An unknowing craft can easily get tangled in the invisble line, the Colorado crash with the tow plane reminds me of this.

Getting back to the sights, you can cruise the desert and make your way up to death valley, perhaps an hours fight. On the way, If it tickles your fancy, you can land at the chicken ranch for a bite to eat, among other good tidbits. You'll be a happy camper taking off, provided that your fancy was properly tickled.
