SP instructor

Post by Cub flyer »

Anybody out there become a sport pilot instructor yet.

I have a guy who has a private rating and 400 hours luscombe time who wants to be a SP instructor.

He can do it without a commercial or instrument.

I was kind of shocked when reading what is actually required to be a SP instructor. A person looking to build time could become a SP instructor at 150 hours and make money without a commercial or IFR ticket? Legally they could instruct in a fast glass panel CT or retract gear amphibian? I guess so from what I have read.

The spin training requirement listed in the FAR's is kind of vague also.

The right person could do it safely and I think it is more targeted at the fat ultralight types or weight shift but there is no airspeed limit or configuration

True and I comsidered this. But dual time with a Sport Insturctor does not count if one is going on to the Private Pilot. Most schools will not hire you.

In the case where you own you own plane I think you will find that increaed insurance and maitanace will outweight the revenue unless he does it full time.

Speaking of insurance, he may be scrutenized as to why he has no medical if an accident happens.
