IACRA (sigh)

Constructive topics of interest related to aviation that do not match the other section descriptions below (as long as it is somewhat related to aviation, flying, learning to fly, sport pilot, light sport aircraft, etc.). Please, advertisements for Viagra will be promptly deleted!"

IACRA (sigh)

Post by rsteele »

I mentioned in another thread that I just got signed off for my check ride.

The next step is to fill out an "8710" form. This has to be done on line at iacra.faa.gov.
This has to be done so your instructor can do the actual sign-off and the DPE can do his paperwork.

This is one of the most frustrating web sites I've ever had the displease of using. What could have taken 30 minutes with a paper form and fax machine is taking days.

First it wouldn't accept my student pilot certificate number. Well, it turns out there is a bug in the software and it won't accept it on the "profile" page, I have to wait and enter it later in the process. Of course, there is no indication on the page about this fact. After filing a request for help, I ended up with an email saying the issue was resolved, but no explanation that I was supposed to leave the field blank. It took a phone call to the support line, for a real person to explain this.

Anyway, I finally got past the certificate number problem, and now it won't let my instructor sign it because there is no information about my written test. I swear I've been through the whole process a dozen time and there is no place to enter anything about my written test. I have another support request in.

So, this is both a warning about IACRA and request for help if anybody as actually completed this beast.

Thanks,

Ron

OK, according to IACRA help, my instructor needs to fill in written test section.
I think I'm his first student to go through this process.

This is true. Your CFI (The "recommending instructor") is supposed to verify your test results, and everything else to make sure you are eligible to take the test, before issuing the electronic endorsement to take the test. There are links on the IACRA screen your instructor sees, allowing him to enter/verify the knowledge test results.
