Re: Can my sport pilot student use his private pilot student certificate?
I think what Paul is stating is that the national average for PP is 60 hrs and the average for his school is 50 hrs (which includes an SP ticket). A local flight school rents a SportCruiser for $145/hr so this means Paul's route is about $1,450 cheaper than the typical PP school, in terms of flight ...

DME = Distance Measuring Equipment, a feature of most VORs Thanks Charlie Tango but it was a rhetorical question, just like "what's an ADF?" My point was it's old technology that's being replaced. Actually, VORs are here to stay -- just in reduced numbers. VOR MON is the FAA pro...

I've been a member of SPT for close to 11 years now and have posted on a variety of topics leveraging my nearly 30 years of experience as a pilot, aircraft owner, S-LSA owner and (all too frequent) avionics upgrader :D I retired from a 35 year career in software development over a year ago and have ...

Re: 3600 lbs gross for LSA ?
This article shines a little light on the subject: https://www.eaa.org/en/eaa/eaa-news-and-aviation-news/news/10-08-2018-eaa-led-reform-ideas-include-lsa-weight-and-homebuilt-regulations Basically, this is part of the MOSAIC initiative and the 3600 lb MTOW is in the 'exploratory phase'. NPRM out som...

Re: Alternatives to composiclean for cleaning
I use Aero Cosmetics Belly Soap which meets Boeing's exterior tech spec which gives assurances against paint soften, corrosion of sandwich layer, won't craze, etc. Oil Eater is pretty far on the acid side of the PH scale so I'd avoid it.

Re: Alternatives to composiclean for cleaning
I've used several locally available quick detailers with good results: * ArmorAll Ultra Shine and Wash & Wax * Meguiar's G3626 Ultimate Quick Detailer * TurtleWax Clean and Shine I wipe down the leading edges of my plane after each day of flight and rarely need to do a tip-to-tail cleaning. Mayb...

Re: Carb line leaking fuel
Warmi -- I'd suggest not putting the quick drain valve back on your new oil tank unless you always run unleaded. If you run more than a trivial amount of 100LL, you'll want to pull the tank off each oil change and get rid of the lead sludge.

Did a little digging on current draw of my panel: * D100 - 1.5A * D120 - 1.0A * Garmin 327 - 1.5A * Garmin SL-40 - 0.6A * Garmin 795 - 0.4A * GDL-39 - 0.3A * GDL-82 - 0.5A * Dynon AP - 1.3 x 2 So around 9A continuous for my core panel. My lights are LED so I can light up like a Christmas tree and st...

Re: ADSB PERFORMANCE REPORT
It just so happened I was going to Little Rock for a chute repack and decided I didn't want to fight city hall so had SportAir install a GDL-82 while they had my plane apart. Cost around $2500 including the GDL-82. Worked flawlessly today from KORK to T31 as per the ADS-B performance report. $2500 ...

Andy -- would you be less concerned if the propeller service spinoff would've been named 'Bob's Prop Shop'?

Re: FAA Action Against Sensenich
This is not rocket science. Sensenich Propeller Services has three locations with each having it's own FAA cert (http://www.sensenichpropellers.com/contact/). The CT location is the subject of the FAA action. GA and PA are not affected The action also has no bearing on Sensenich Propeller Manufactur...

Re: FAA Action Against Sensenich
Who said this particular shop was 'the official Sensenich repair/overhaul' shop? This is just one of around forty that are factory authorized to work on Sensenich props. This particular shop happens to have Sensenich in the name but it has no legal relationship to the manufacturer Sensenich.
