Re: More Ercoupe pics

Getting past the thread drift and back to Ercoupe pictures, in 1979 at the annual "Wings Over Wine Country" Memorial Day airshow, Major Greg "Pappy" Boyington of Black Sheep Squadron fame was sitting at a card table signing autographed copies of his autobiography "Baa Baa Bl...

Re: More Ercoupe pics

What struck me about that picture is NO HEADSET. Back then, nobody had headsets; we just cranked up the volume on the radio cabin speaker so we could hear it over the engine noise. It's a wonder we aren't all deaf.

You just did, Stan, by admitting that you made E4 while I was still in college.

Re: More Ercoupe pics

Nice! I've been an Ercoupe fan for decades. Just decades? I've been an Ercoupe fan for more than half a century! OK, Paul, I just didn't want to give away how ancient I am. When I got my private ticket in 1964 (fifty-six years ago) I had a chance to buy a 415-C that was for sale in Ogden, UT...

Re: Gust Lock

Looking at the P92 lower panel, it would seem to me to be a simple matter to rivet or bolt a piece of sheet aluminum or bar stock to the bottom of the panel to accommodate the tit bolts and provide the necessary structure to withstand high winds. Of course if the airplane is still registered as an S...

Re: Gust Lock

Looks like a good solution, though perhaps a bit pricey. And, Aircraft Spruce really needs a proofreader: Mine was $60.00 ordered on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/str/prideofownershipproducts I considered fabricating one myself, but in the end decided that rounding up the attachment hardware and other...

Re: Gust Lock

I use one of those on my Zodiac, which has an angle aluminum cross member stiffener at the bottom of the instrument panel. The fastener "tit bolts" (for lack of a better term) are installed in the stiffener with the tits pointed down. It works great. I did have to provide POOP with custom ...

Re: Insurance rate shocker

Be glad you're not in commercial service, Stan. Your premium would be five times that amount. Paul, you're right of course; I should count my blessings. Aviation insurance companies were complaining about operating at a loss. At least 2 have left the marker because of that. Recent storms have hit s...

Re: Insurance rate shocker

My policy is up for renewal on May 17, and I received my quote for renewal yesterday. I've never been involved in an accident, incident, or deviation, and have never had an aviation insurance claim in 56 years as a certificated private pilot. My hull insurance is for $50,000. Premiums since I purcha...

Re: Tecnam Flap extension

The P2002-JF maximum flaps extension speed is 67 KIAS full flaps (40 degrees) and 97 KIAS for takeoff (15 degrees) according to the POH. P2002-JF Speed Limitations.jpg Interesting, as in the POH for the P2002 Sierra US-LSA it says 67 KIAS is the maximum for any flap setting Yeah, that is interestin...

Yeah, that's pretty reasonable. My CH601XL VFE is 70 KIAS full flaps.
