Aircraft insurance for training

The school/FBO that provides me 2 S-LSA is about to not pay the insurance which will shut down my LSA training operation. I said that I will try and find some less expensive insurance with $80,000 hull and $5000 deductable, 100,000 medical, and 1,000,000 total. They have been paying $4000 per airpla...

Yes I have flown both actual aircraft but not the Zodiac 650 simulator. The 650 is a little nicer because they increased the angle of incidence (wing to fusalage angle) slightly so it takes off better and you can see better over the nose while flying. The 650 they also reduced the sensativity of the...

Yes this is one of the big problems with learning to fly. These are the typical statements I hear from students who are not satisfied with their training program, who quit or are looking for another instructor: “I never got any homework in between flight lessons”, “not sure exactly what we are going...

Very interesting story of a checkride/practical test scenario. Typically applicants are notified when a task is unsatisfactory as listed on Page 13 of the introduction of the PRS and “The test may be continued ONLY with the consent of the applicant.” So you were told about the unsatisfactory tasks a...

Keith Smith and all, I have been incredibly busy teaching but want to say that I have looked at your PilotEdge system for simulator ATC training. Wow, looks great. Based on my quick look, yes this would be a valuable training aid for ATC towered airports. Would love to take you up on the offer to te...

In doing CFI checkrides during the oral, overall, I find the applicant has the most trouble doing the mandatory endorsements section. I have a complete and comprehensive list you should have at: http://sport-pilot-training.com/category/endorsements/ In the oral and the flight I ask questions such as...

As I have learned in the past, do not ask the FAA for something in writing for a gray area you want leniency. It will typically go to the lawyers in DC and it can be the most stringent getting rid of the gray area. Even AOPA and the FAA is just an opinion until it is challenged. At least with an AOP...
