Re: What is good, bad or interesting about Tecnam LSAs?

You must have missed my posts complaining about support from HOV (Technam North America). Bottom line is after a year (6 months of it in the shop), they couldn't fix the avionics and electrical problems. If you still want one I will sell you my 2010 Sierra with 75 hours (bought new March 2012 for $1...

Re: Possible Malware on this forum

After being unable to access the site yesterday with either Google or IE (access denied), today IE is working properly with this site (first time in months).

Re: Carb Heat Checks at Runup

What I have always done:

During run up after the ignition check, I turn carb heat on and look for an RPM drop. I put the throttle on idle and make sure the engine still idles. I then turn carb off and look a rise in RPM to normal idle.

Re: Trouble with "View unread", "View new", and "View your"

I downloaded Google Chrome. It seems to work with Sprotpilottalk.com. I like IE9 much better, but when I want to check on Sport Pilot I will load Chrome and check it (until Sport Pilot fixes their problem with IE9).

Re: Trouble with "View unread", "View new", and "View your"

I've had the same trouble for the last 3-4 days with the latest version of Opera. Decided to try Firefox and it seems OK. I suppose somebody changed something somewhere and Opera suddenly doesn't like it. A couple of times, on this forum only, I got an error message to the effect that I was using a...

Re: Trouble with "View unread", "View new", and "View your"

I'm not experiencing any of that, Art. I did a test 'search' and got the results in <1 sec. And the View Unread link seems to work properly. I suggest you close your browser. And if you're like me, you may have hibernated (PC world) too often and need a fresh reboot. Just guessing... I power off ev...

Trouble with "View unread", "View new", and "View your"

Is it just me or has the "View unread posts" become unusable? It is unbelievibly slow and the display is completely different. The main screen is the same as always and apparently you can go directly to a particular forum without difficulty but both of the search functions have really gott...

Re: N535TA problem correction status

Are you saying you LAND 14 to 24 knots above your stall speed? 26k x 1.3 is only 34k, and that is the recommended approach speed, not touchdown speed. The manual for the Sierra says touchdown 40 knots with full flaps and 50 with no flaps. Approach is 60 and the instructors get nervous if you drop b...

Re: N535TA problem correction status

I was spoiled by the Cirrus and couldn't get the high wings to land in a crosswind without floating. The perception is the reality, but... ...LOW wings have traditionally been the floaters. For an obvious reason - ground effect increases dramatically as you get closer to the ground. And low wings a...

Re: N535TA problem correction status

Have you been able to fly your airplane? I'm looking at a used Sierra right now and would appreciate any information you may have! The basic plane is great. It is easy to fly and very easy to land. I learned to fly in a 172. After about a year of flying out of a club and getting my IFR I went to a ...

Re: Your Callsign--How do you announce yourself?

I fly in the SFRA (Washington DC area) and I just say "light sport 535TA" and everybody seems happy with that. Occassionally I am asked for the type and I respond "SIRA" (that is the official FAA designation for flight plans). There is very little sense in saying I am a Sierra (c...

Re: N535TA problem correction status

I would have thought you would have had a belly full of light sport airplane problems by now. I seem to have the ability to make bad aircraft purchase decisions. This time I took the advice of my lawyer and accepted the fact the dealer would be unable to pay any judgement so I was better off taking...

Re: Different Classes of Sport Pilot

Torque, the issue is that FAA does not issue licenses that are exclusive to one aircraft, or one type of flying. If you get a Sport Pilot rating in an airplane, you are empowered to fly any LSA airplane, in any airspace except Classes A through D. There's no way to grant those privileges without th...
