Primary Category is not a standard airworthiness certificate. It is a type certificate but not standard airworthiness. As for instrumentation, it does not need to be TSO equipment. PRimary Category allows the manufacturer to propose an airworthiness standard (ASTM, BCAR CAA, etc.) and then certifiy ...

I would suggest calling Denise Porter at Aviation West. 760-727-7444. She will take the time to explain everything. When we started in this business in 2006, she was the only insurance broker willing to put in the time and effort to get the right answers and the right policy. Others just push paper....

Having flown with all the headsets discussed. Clarity Aloft is by far my favorite. There isn't even a close second. I can fly 10 hours in a day with no residual effects from the Clarity. All the others, I have headaches after a while.

Having not flown much with floats, the end seems a little shaky with the aircraft rocking back far on the floats. Is that typical of straight float aircraft?

Our leaseback owners have down pretty well. It depends on why you are leasing back. Are you looking to make money and this is just an investment? Are you looking to help share the cost of owning your own airplane? If you want to make money, then you need to lease the plane to a school that will use ...

Paul,

Clarification to my post "SPI teach for the love of aviation" - I was referring to flight instructors that teach sport pilot, albeit SPI or CFI.

Back to the original statement... You can make as good a living being an SPI as a CFI if you know what you are doing. There are many CFIs out there that are not making because of demand. Demand is not just a product of want the customer wants but of what you offer. The real question to ask is "...

The FAA is working on the exception. In fact, there is a meeting with the FAA and gyroplane manufacturers this week in Maryland. Yes, you can train on an experimental gyroplane with a LODA. The FAA just released new LODA guidance. We are importing gyroplane kits for AutoGyro (www.autogyrousa.com). W...

ICAO applies to airman and aircaft. SP and LSAs are not recognized ICAO categories. Therefore, neither are qualified to fly international. FAA's jurisdiction is in the domestic airspace and its FIRs. I believe the are of the islands not directly controlled by the government of the island is part of ...

I think the "invasion of privacy" argument is generally thrown around by media, movies, and the uniformed. Understanding the use of these aircraft and their capabilities would make for a much more informed discussion on privacy rights, etc. I do find it interesting that people complain abo...

Actually, I fly both. To answer your question about why UAV over manned aircraft would take a while. Basically, due to regulatory issues the UAS are not as practical. Moreover, the cost of a UAV with a camera similar to what we put on the LSAs would cost substantially more than an LSA.

This is a good source of info on LSA in law enforcement. www.justnet.org/aviation A public entity (sheriff's office) does not need a civil airworthiness or civil airman certificiate when flying for a public mission (sheriff's duty). Therefore, an LSA can be used by a law enforcement entity as it is ...

I think the plane is pretty cool! I hope it works and other manufacturers take notice. The interior is awesome. They took a page from the car industry. Too many planes are designed with only aerodynamics in mind and not style. I think more style would be a good thing.
