Re: Low and slow XC prep
My advice would be to keep the trip as simple as possible. Since this is your first flight in this airplane, you just don't know what issues may crop up. I would forget camping because, until you actually sit in the airplane, how do you know how much room you have? Carry plenty of cash and a couple ...

Re: How is this an LSA... Not complaining
I think that's what Paul said. I'm sure he didn't mean the DAR was out doing flight testing.

Re: How is this an LSA... Not complaining
I get it. But we don't know the specified max gross weight, do we? So, maybe it does "carry water." Not only that, but maybe it's correct. I'd be willing to bet whoever built that airplane did not specify max gross at 1320 pounds. I guess it's possible.

No, the certified weight exceeds 1320.Atrosa wrote:There is clearly a sticker on the airspeed indicator so that qualifies as an SLA under FAR 04.01 (please note the date before responding about 04.01)

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA
You're not going to fly that airplane in bad weather or at night. You don't need any instruments or redundancy. Just a Stratux and a couple of these batteries fully charged before you leave home. https://www.amazon.com/EasyAcc-Portable-Charger-External-Battery/dp/B07221FMF3/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=batte...

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA
You can basically get everything except AOA with a Stratux for less than $200.

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA
A Sport Pilot or other pilot operating with Sport Pilot privileges can legally fly an LSA. You would need a tail-wheel endorsement.

Re: Corben Baby Ace D as LSA
The only problem I see is how are you going to carry camping gear in that airplane?

Exactly. Always expect to go around. Be surprised if you get to land.

Home equity line of credit. Also, others will disagree, don't buy an airplane unless your flying budget is $1000 per month or more.

Re: Not a Hello, but an I'm still alive message!
Thanks everyone. As I said, I may be back in a year or two. As far as IRA money, I have been withdrawing and spending the RMD's for a couple years now. There is no way to avoid that. On the other hand, the rest, I want to leave for my wife when I'm gone and my kids when she is gone. Having flown sin...

Re: Not a Hello, but an I'm still alive message!
Thanks Paul. Our budget keeps getting squeezed tighter and tighter and I refuse to use IRA money to fly airplanes. We will come into some sizable money in the not to distance future, so I may be back depending on my health at the time. I got a good report from my ONC yesterday, so that's still looki...
