Re: Anyone hear from MacAttack?

Hey guys! I'm here and safe. Actually I am in Southern California visiting my oldest daughter - was a planned visit but now the unplanned part is that I may not be able to get back to Houston for a while. My turf field next to the brazos river is at a higher elevation so it has stayed dry and draine...

Re: Purchasing choices

I can only add a couple quick points to this discussion (I fly a Tecnam SLSA). First, I would get quotes from a couple insurance brokers ahead of time - you should be able to answer the insurance question pretty quickly and easily. Second, and not discussed yet in the thread, is the warranty. Will t...

Re: Jabiru J-230?

I have not researched this aircraft extensively, but it would not surprise me if the Jabiru had the largest cargo area of the LSAs because I believe they sell the 230 as a 4-seater elsewhere. You'd have to research the cargo area volume specs on other aircraft to be sure ... but I would expect the m...

Re: TL3000 Sirius vs Tecnam P2008

I have to agree with Nomore767. I bought a Tecnam Astore with the Rotax 914 - love the plane. Back and forth to Florida from Houston, all points in between, about to travel to Minnesota in a few weeks and really looking forward to that 900 nm trip. The Tecnam has great avionics, great stability and ...

Re: Flying into a Class C airport of entry

Flocker, you scofflaw ... *laughing* I'm in the same boat - I hold a PPL but fly under sport privileges, so I think I would be ok strictly speaking as well. But having operated at one of the big Bravo airports (KPHL) in a LSA, I'm not all that keen in operating at another... more blood pressure than...

Re: What can I really expect during my checkride?

And by the way, the words "student pilot" are nice magic words to use with ATC as well; if you are in or near busy airspace on the check ride (or otherwise while learning), identifying yourself to ATC as a student pilot will get them to slow down for you ... it can be a big help if things ...

Re: Arggg nonsensical financing

I think it's normal for a credit union that doesn't do a lot of aircraft finance. I would look at the alternative sources mentioned here or look for an aircraft finance specialty firm; there are several around. Your aircraft insurance broker or aircraft dealer may have suggestions; you can also brow...

Re: Is raising the S-LSA gross weight a priority for EAA?

I really want a constant-speed prop and another 10-15 knots in addition to 750 kg.... I know it's early to ask Santa for next Christmas, but as long as we are putting the wishlist together ... *laughing*

Good discussion, but we will see what they do ... if anything.

Cheers

Re: Is raising the S-LSA gross weight a priority for EAA?

There are some LSAs that are very near the maximum empty weights (e.g., some Tecnams and CubCrafter LSAs) which would benefit from a weight increase. For me personally in my Tecnam, that would allow a second 200-lb passenger and full fuel, for example, and the aircraft would still be under its EASA-...

Re: Part 23 rewrite and LSA's

I follow a similar exchange - on initial contact, "Houston Approach, Tecnam 837 Tango Alpha is with you at 7500" or some such. When they ask for type of aircraft, I usually respond "7 Tango Alpha is a light sport, ICAO identifier Alpha-Sierra-Tango-Oscar." That usually does the t...

Re: Part 23 rewrite and LSA's

I agree - I think you will see some LSA companies (Tecnam, Cubcrafters) who make "heavy" LSAs will go ahead and use the consensus standards to certify these aircraft under the new Part 23 rules, which will not only provide a significant useful load increase, but will also allow them to add...

Re: Drone Near Miss

Thanks for the interesting report and I'm glad it turned out ok for everyone. I expect your pipeline guess is probably right. I have yet to see a drone report in any NOTAMs that I have checked recently ... but a drone operator who was going to operate within a couple miles of my airport sent the air...

You will do fine using any of those resources. When I sat down and took a practice test literally cold after a 30+ year hiatus flying and watching only a couple hours of online videos, I got an 85. And most of what I missed was those questions about interpreting VOR displays ... I only got one other...

Re: Terrafugia Tries Again

As much as I hate to say it in some ways, the Icon makes way more sense than the "flying car" attempts. Unless you can find one that can go VTOL (like the one in Back to the Future!!), I don't see much going for them for the reasons indicated. Hmmm... I wonder how long it would take to get...
