Changes in life some personal observations

Long time member low poster and some changes in life approaching. My aviation journey to this point in my life, back when I was in college (the middle 1980’s), I was in the Army reserve and part of an aviation unit. I took a commission, graduated starting working as a law enforcement officer and in ...

Re: Some questions about training and medical

I should clarify the reason I had asked the initial question. While I was in the process of doing my research I had come across a couple of aircraft that were identified as LSA and also fit the cross country profile very well. One of them is/was the Jabiru J-250 which prior to being designated as an...

Re: LSA, MTOW, VS0, Floats

The intent of the rule was to bring the "fat" ultra-lights under a rule set. The part 103 254lb empty weight was violated in order to fly 2 seat trainers. The 2 seat trainers were restricted to instruction only but then all flights became for the purpose of instruction and the fat ultrali...

Re: LSA, MTOW, VS0, Floats

Wow that is ton of information and I appreciate all of it because it really explains a lot in the relation at least to a little as to how the 1,320 lb MTOW came to be. One thing for sure is there are some of the aircraft that are certified elsewhere for higher MTOW but as SP only 1,320 unless they a...

Re: LSA, MTOW, VS0, Floats

The answer is that the stall speed goes up by 7% or so. If the airplane is designed so that its stall speed bumps right against the legal limit of 45 knots, then it's impossible to add floats and keep it legal. But most LSAs have a margin. CTLS has VSo of only 39 knots, so adding floats is trivial....

Re: ppl training question

Unless I have misread if you are currently training as an SP student then you do not require a medical and can solo and train as an SP, but if you are training to become a PPL then you need a third class medical as part of your student certificate from I have always been told. Best bet is complete t...

Re: LSA, MTOW, VS0, Floats

There has been a lot of discussion on this forum regarding flying 'over gross' in LSA's (as well as other aircraft). I understand the points made regarding being safe, being legal, questioning the apparent arbitrariness of the 1320-lb limit, etc. The point that always makes me think twice is the ef...

Flight suit yes or no?

When it comes to flight suits they are fire retardant, they are comfortable, you can get them in different colors that are appropriate to your style of flying. As long as you don't put a bunch of bogus patches all over them trying to claim some form of fighter pilot lineage its all good. If your ask...

Ok thanks for some clarification so this would allow a rp or hopefully pp who has not had medical denied or failed stay within the classification they are currently in on a driver's license. But the key is letting the medical lapse not taking and getting denied correct? In short if I am a SP I stay ...

My question is are sport pilots hoping the exemption brings them into larger gross weight planes on a drivers license medical. Because when you read what a recreational pilot can do I personally would rather fly as a sport pilot.
