Lycoming YO-233-B2A

Anybody know what a Lycoming YO-233-B2A is? Tecnam is apparently going to offer this as an option in the Eaglet. The biggest drawback to a Rotax 912 (which I've owned for 5 years now) is that issue of maybe needing to find a Rotax-certified mechanic to work on it (I still haven't heard whether or no...

Aircraft ID to ATC

I've been flying a Tecnam Bravo out of a Class C airport for 5 years now and have given up trying to explain what kind of aircraft I'm in. I just say "experimental" and they seem to be O.K with that.

P2008 Purchase

Be sure you get the Reiff pre-heater option. I just had one installed on my Bravo last week, and it does a good job of getting the oil temp up into the yellow before engine start.

LSA vs. 182

Jake, 5 years ago I was also in the same situation, and after 4 1/2 years of SLSA ownership (Tecnam Bravo), I sort of wish I had my Skylane back. You really have to take the Light Sport name seriously - these things do get bounced around more than heavier planes, and you do have to choose your day a...

Tecnam Design "gotchas"

B. Technam has a load of experience in the market. Good planes, on the whole, but a few design and support gotchas. I've been waiting for Tim or Helen to respond to this statement, but I guess it didn't register on either of them. I admit Tecnam support has been disappointing for many years, but I'...

SLSA Service Bulletins

I have my Bravo maintained by a Tecnam Service Center, so I'm not too concerned about being up-to-date on S/Bs, but one thing I'm curious about: We all know that any modifications to a SLSA must be approved by the manufacturer, but what about modifications mandated by S/Bs? Can an A&P do what's ...

Tecnam Web Site

Speaking of which, I see the Tecnam Web Site just received a major upgrade today.

New Tecnam Web Site

The new Tecnam Web site is www.tecnam.net. It's still very much a work in progress, but much of the important stuff is there.

Spinning a Tecnam

I agree, and I bet that old guy who test flies every Tecnam airplane has done plenty of spins in his company's products. Maybe that's why they prohibit intentional spins. Maybe he scared himself a few times.

Tecnam Spinning

My Bravo is placarded against intentional spins, but I guess unintentional ones are O.K.

Model ID

What do you use for the "aircraft type" when filing a flight plan? As far as I know, the only ones available for Tecnams are echo and golf. You'd think that by now someone would have added codes for bravo and sierra to the FAA's contractions database. Also, I'd like to know a few things ab...

Tecnam Stall Characteristics

I believe the Sierra and the Bravo have the same wing, but to date no Bravos have turned up in the NTSB database. I've been flying a Bravo for over three years and so far have found its stall characteristics to be quite benign. The demo Bravo I flew back in '05 had a pronounced buffet in the fuselag...

P2006

I may go to OSH just to harass the Birminghams about the dearth of Rotax-trained mechanics. People aren't going to buy a plane like the P2006 if their local A & P can't work on it because he/she doesn't have Rotax certification. There are only two shops in my whole state qualified to work on the...

Light Sport Mall at Oshkosh

With reference to the Light Sport Mall at Oshkosh, I'd like to hear more. The "official" word I got from the EAA was they aren't sponsering a mall this year, but LAMA might have something similar. Anybody know more about that?

I'm not going, now that the Light Sport Mall is kaput.
