Ohio Chili and Franks Fly in - HAAR Airport (9OH1)

Check out the attached Flyer. We'd love to have you join us and I can guarantee you'll have a great time. I fly into Oshkosh every year, go to Reno for the races and attend a couple of other local air shows every year and this is by far my favorite aviation event. Nothing beats a grass strip out ful...

^Great that is exactly what I was thinking but I didn't know where to buy them. Thanks!

Re: Fatal Aventura crash at Sebring Expo

^Thanks for bringing up your additional information on the incident. On a personal level I am saddened but as a pilot and builder of this aircraft I am very interested to hear information about the cause of the accident, I think for obvious reason. FYI this is the arrangement of the elevator on this...

Re: Fatal Aventura crash at Sebring Expo

Being that I am currently building an Aventura and I considered myself friends with Jason this was very shocking and upsetting news. A friend called and told me about the incident shortly after it happened as I was sitting in my shop working on my project and it really hit close to home for me. I ha...

Re: Bose A20 - wind noise / open cockpit

Well I bought a (used) pair for what seems to be a pretty good deal so I'll report back how they work out. Worst comes to worst, I don't think I'll be out anything if it turns out they just don't fit my MO and I decide to sell them.

Bose A20 - wind noise / open cockpit

Anyone have experience flying the A20's in an open cockpit or with the doors off? I have heard that they are not effective with wind but what I want to know is if this means they don't really block out wind noise actively, they are actually substantially worse at blocking wind noise passively, or pe...

Re: Could Sport Pilots Use More Positive PR?

I agree that there is definitely a stigma towards sport pilots however I don't have a problem with the limitations. The way I see it they allow us to fly without as strict of pilot requirements on the conditions that we may not fly in areas of heightened risk to the public and our passenger. That ju...

Re: Most Flying Hours for a Sport Pilot

I really think this depends and maybe the program hasn't really been around long enough to tell. There are a lot of PP's that probably would have opted for SP if it was around when they got there ticket. I think there is a mix among both PP and SP of guys who like flying around home base and those w...

Re: Passenger Jet Crosswind Landing O'Hare Thursday

This got me to watch other big jet crosswinds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POu1e71OlMo and I don't want to be come off as a know it all barely sport pilot but I think a lot of these are just really shitty landings. The first guy had kind of an interesting approach as he crabbed it in with the win...

Re: Passenger Jet Crosswind Landing O'Hare Thursday

Some large airplanes are designed to land in a crab for crosswinds. The B-52 does this, and I think some larger airliners do as well. It's easier on passengers to stay level all the way down than to drop a wing. Even the little Ercoupe, which does not have rudder pedals, is meant to land in a crab....

Re: Passenger Jet Crosswind Landing O'Hare Thursday

Perhaps it is camera angle (which is odd as the runway looks like its about 1000 feet long) but it seems like he never straightened out the crab before touching down. The whole time I was watching it waiting for him to straighten out but it didn't look like he ever did. After the first wheel touched...

Re: Bloodshot eyes

Hm not sure. I have a sandrail and motorcycle that I drive the majority of the time in the summer and no one has ever said anything. I'm not riding my bike or sandrail much this time of year though. Maybe I'll take my bike out for a cruise tomorrow and look in the mirror after words.

Bloodshot eyes

Since the first time I flew my ultra light 4 years ago I remember my instructor saying something about my eyes being very bloodshot. I never saw it and not flying with anyone, nobody else ever did. Now that I have my ticket and take up other people almost every single time after we land the person s...

Re: taking my checkride today, or tomorrow

Noted the long discussion on approach techniques, slips, etc. A well prepared pilot practices closed throttle with no flaps, with each increment of flaps, and with slips both with and without flaps landing on a specific spot on the runway. Randomly cutting power at various positions in the pattern ...
