Aircraft Financing Advise
I'd like to take advantage of my plans to purchase an aircraft to build credit and hopefully help me in the next couple years when I seek to purchase real estate. I'm a 24 year old gainfully employed engineer with about 70k in liquid assets (in the form of toys) but I have never had an opportunity t...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
jet docks are the floating docks that people store small boats and jet skis on. You just drive up onto the dock. It would protect the hull from water, give something to tie down to and peace of mind that it isn't going to sink.

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
^ The aircraft I am getting takes 30 min to remove the wings so it absolutely can be stored in a trailer and this is definitely something I have considered. The problem is that would realistically take an hour to set up and tear down and in the summer when I will be flying a lot that is not time I w...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
I'd like to here more opinions for the Tie down people if there are any. For a 24 year old guy who participates in a good deal of other hobbies I'm just not sure it really makes sense to hanger a 15 year old 25k aircraft. I like hearing all of the considerations that you guys look at. I'm still tryi...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
def some good things to consider. Ya know I guess in all reality its not like I have to make up my mind and no turning back. I can try out both and see which way I like. The other option which would be super ideal would be to put it on a jet dock in the river at my parents house down the road. They ...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
I've been running numbers and considering what I know is a touchy subject. I have gotten hangaring rates from my local airport (which I think are very reasonable) and I also spoke to the Aventura factory rep in regards to life expectencies for the fabric on the plane. He said that a new set of fabri...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
It is def not a very exciting book to read and my experience with ultralight flying (which I consider to not be technical in the slightest) made much of it kind of pointing out the obvious. However, I did learn a lot of new information and it gave some perspectives I would not have considered. I thi...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
I finished reading Stick and Rudder halfway through my trip last week. I did all of my reading on airplanes and I always try to get window seats just behind the wing. That made it pretty cool because I could look out and see a lot of the things the book talked about in action. Especially on the sect...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
^ That is good to hear. I had a conversation last night with a friend who is a member of the local EAA chapter and his brother is the president of it I believe. I've stopped by there hanger on my ultralight before a couple times and they are a good group of guys. They have a CFI who is a commercial ...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
Thanks for all the great recommendations. Stick and Rudder came in the mail yesterday and I will definitely have that knocked out pretty soon. Like you mentioned Jack, at this point I am definitely not focusing my reading on passing the written. I am really not concerned about that at all I have alw...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
Stick and Rudder was the first flying book I read, long before I actually took lessons. I'm preparing a post about it, which I'll hopefully have completed within a few days. Anyway, an easy read, highly recommended and worth revisiting every once in a while. I ordered stick and rudder this morning....

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
I concur with Pete, although I wouldn't be in too great a hurry to start on the bookwork. Get some flying experience under your belt first, and the written test prep will then be something more than just memorizing material to pass a test - it will prrovide you a solid basis for understanding the r...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
I will very likely take the rotax maintenance courses. I'm sure they will pay for themselves. The main thing I would hope to get out of them would be good information / training on synchronizing the carbs. Another question for you all. Can you guys point me to what you would consider to be the best ...

Re: Getting Started and purchasing a LSA
Thanks so much for all the feedback thus far! Really good information for me. I'm a gearhead and I have never paid a mechanic to do any work for me (Like I am sure most of you do, I like my toys and plenty of them!!). The ability to work on the engine myself is really a huge draw to me and I am happ...
