Re: Aero-News article on Icon A5 purchase contract
With some quick googling, it looks like it only takes a 10 page contract to buy a shiny new B737.

Re: Average flight time per lesson?
I think an hour is about average. As you progress towards your checkride, you'll probably find your instructor will beat you up more and the hour will seem longer. Someone posted some US Air Force numbers concerning a study they did on the optimum times and frequency of training. I think their fligh...

Re: A question for CFIs
By all means, go for PP. I did after farting around with SP and I've not regretted it for a minute. And to elaborate on your original question, you don't need to demonstrate VOR skills on your PP checkride if your aircraft doesn't have a VOR, however if your checkride aircraft is equipped with a fun...

Re: A question for CFIs
I'm not a CFI, but I can answer your question. I passed my PP checkride without a VOR in my airplane. The PP practical test standards require knowledge of radio navigation, of which GPS is acceptable. That said, I did have to demonstrate the ability to intercept and fly a VOR "radial" with...

My take on this is that we need a senator or representative with some clout to hold whoever did this accountable.

Re: Buying your own plane for training
As someone who purchased a new 2006 CTSW as a zero time pilot, all I can say is "you're committed". Having your own plane is a great thing, and I don't regret doing it. In my case, hangar and personal tax costs were way higher than I'd imagined. OTOH, by owning my own plane and sharing han...

Re: Unfiltered Auto Fuel
I use 93 octane pump gas (with ethanol) in my CTSW. I don't filter my fuel, and have no problems. I have very little sediment in my fuel, and have never found any water. But I do use name brand gas from a relatively new station. I wouldn't feel as confident getting no-name gas from a 50 year old st...

You should not have to take your pants off.
My experience, piss in bottle, listen to heart, take blood pressure, near vision, far vision, color vision, casual hearing test, casual chat about medical history, certificate.

I think it's just the nature of social media. I'm active on reddit /askengineers. There's something like 37,000 readers and just a handful of regular commenters. Most people just like to lurk and read.

Re: Shock Cooling
The 40 degree limit on bank angle is a new one on me. I suspect it's widely ignored in training service while doing steep turns. I've probably done over a hundred in mine, and I'm sure I've gone as far as 55-60 degrees briefly.

Re: Do you enjoy flying in bumpy wind, thermals, etc.
All I can add is that taking your checkride on a hot, bumpy day is usually a good thing. The bumps cover up your jitters and the examiner will want to get the ride over as soon as possible. Worked for me and my friends.
