Re: Only $389,000 for Icon A5

I tend to agree with MrMorden in that the advertising for this aircraft does tend to minimize the notion that it is, in fact, an airplane and requires piloting skills and commitment. Let's remind ourselves that a seaplane is,in fact, a separate licensing endorsement. I remember how during the develo...

@C162Pilot
Here is a pretty good weight and balance calculator for the Skycatcher at MidIsland Air.

Re: My Biggest Pet Peeve: Pattern Cyclers Who...

I don't get to fly much these days but, when I do, it's around and around the pattern we go. Jumping over to the neighboring Class D does add some additional civility if you're stuck with the weekend warriors.

Re: What is your interest level in Light Sport flying?

I guess I need to lay off the boards for a while. I'm getting frustrated at all the experts that have to tell you why you're wrong no matter what you post. I have 100's of hours in C150's. I can buy a C150 for 1/4 the price of a used LSA. I usually fly about 200nm at the most or a couple 200nm legs...

Re: Lightning LS-1

FWIW... friend had one... long-time pilot, owned many airplanes. Crashed it twice... landing incidents. hmmmmm. I've talked to a number of pilots who say it's the "Martin Marauder", "F-104", etc, etc of Light Sport aircraft. Which just increases the allure for me. Those are 2 pl...

"Still -- getting/keeping more pilots in the air with the plane of the choice is an overall good thing."

Very well put, and exactly on the mark. I believe it can be done safely as well.

Re: Pilots could now fly bigger planes on driver's license

While not necessarily an LSA issue, by a twist of irony, this could potentially breathe new life into Cessna's Skycatcher. If they break the 1320, beef it up, and try to keep the cost down (say, under half that of the Skyhawk), they may have a new trainer (essentially a 152 replacement) as well as a...

Re: Skycatcher's End

The camel is a creature remarkably and uniquely adapted to survive in one of the harshest environments in the world. Had the Skycatcher been as thoughtfully engineered, it may have survived the equally harsh market that is LSA. I still have my original Skycatcher factory sales brochure. It is a beau...

Hi Paul,

I will certainly pass on your greetings. I sometimes see Lou over at his other FBO at KISP when I am there for the monthly WINGS safety seminars.

Re: New from Indianapolis (Greenwood) Indiana

Hi Dean, My brother lives in IN and used to keep his Piper there in Greenwood. He was the one that got me started in flying during our visits. Great little airport (as long as the winds are favorable) and much more affordable than here on Long Island. I rent 172's at KHWV on Long Island, NY and have...

Re: Top five LSAs (per Flying Magazine)

Has anyone been following the Storm Aircraft (Light Sport America) move to Bartow, Florida? I don't think I saw them mentioned in the Plane and Pilot article either.

Hello from New York

Hi. New from Long Island. Private that rents Cessnas at HWV and looking to enter and/or switch to LSA. Not fully sold yet, but, keeping an open mind.
