How to do engine-out in Zenith 601?
Hi guys, I was an active member of this forum a couple years ago. Long story short, I'm now the proud owner of a Zenith 601 HDS, along with two friends. It's a nice experimental plane, rather similar to many LSAs with a Rotax 912 ULS engine. Here's the spec sheet for the kit: http://www.zenithair.co...

I finally did it!
Hi folks, As some of you might remember, I started my aviation journey around 2 years ago after attending Oshkosh and a week later getting a ride on an LSA plane and getting hooked. Well folks, it's been a roller coaster ride, but I have arrived. I'd like to introduce the newest addition to the pilo...

Re: Established glide path
Hi everyone, thanks for all your input. This week, due to the super nice calm weather a bit unusual to midwest, I flew everyday, with a 3 solo days. I think I finally got it. The trick for me was to leave a bit more power in, and make a slightly wider pattern. This way, I have more time in each leg ...

Re: Established glide path
Ah, the mysteries of landings. No one simple cookie cutter landing procedure is going to work right every time, because there are to many variables. What you need is a base line to make adjustment from, which it sounds like you have. One thing your instructor might have forgot to mention is that wi...

Established glide path
Hi everyone, long time no see :) Even though I was not active on the forum, I've been active flying in the past couple of months. I ended up switching to private pilot training in a larger airplane (Piper Archer), since it was much more convenient location-wise and access-wise. Anyway, I have got to...

Re: OSHKOSH 2015
If I can finish my license by then, and find another more experience pilot who feels confident enough in the Oshkosh air traffic, I'll probably fly there too. It's kind of a milestone goal for me.

Congress on medical
Let's support the pilot protection bill by writing to the congress. It's super easy and took me less than a minute:

Re: Medical Reform Legislation introduced to House and Senat
Read, Just be 100% sure you can pass your medical. Some examiners will give you a "pre-medical" screening to ensure that. But once the real paperwork is started, if he finds something disqualifying you are seriously hosed. I assume you've thought about this, but just putting it out there....

What does a 3'rd class medical look like?
Can anyone tell me how a third class medical exam usually goes? I've scheduled one in two weeks (I'd like to continue my training to get the private). I'm 34, healthy as much as I can tell, not too much overweight :). I go to gym three times a week and am on no drugs. Have a history of a fractured f...

Re: Medical Reform Legislation introduced to House and Senat
I've decided to venture out to private pilot training, and I've scheduled a medical exam in 2 weeks. It's important to note that this bill was just introduced to the house and senate, not passed. It'll probably take weeks or months of lobbying and discussion before the congress gets to vote on this....

Re: Safety Implications of Kinetic Energy
I stand corrected, this is even more interesting. http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a082512.pdf It shows how much acceleration can human body take in aviation related accidents. The human body can tolerate certain amounts of acceleration or deceleration per time period. Yes, the lower kinetic ...

Docile handling LSAs
Which LSAs' handling is more docile? I was discussing LSAs to a pilot friend of mine who is used to Piper 28, and the discussion veered off to the handling question. The concern is that for pilots who are used to the docile handling of part-23 aircraft like the piper 28, transition into LSAs could b...

Re: Sun 'N Fun 2015
I'm having some maintenance issues with the CTSW What kind of issues? Go read the CTFlier forum...basically seeing some non-destructive trim tab flutter at 130-135kt. Not enough to break anything, but plenty to make you sit up straight in your seat and draw it up a little. Working with Flight Desig...
