Re: Insurance rate shocker

Yes but still considerably below what I was paying just three years ago.
So, in my case, the ‘shocker’ was paying less than previously.

Re: Erratic CHT sensor

On my 912 ULS I’ve replaced the left side CHT sensor twice in 585 hours.
It would jump from normal to high then low triggering the yellow/red warnings.
Crimping/lubing the spade connector helped a bit.
In the end just bought a new sensor, life’s too short!

Re: LSA rental has inoperable fuel gauge. How to deal with school to fix it?

As pilot in command if you’re not happy with the airworthiness of the aircraft then don’t accept it. Period. It’s your license, your money and your ass. If the owner doesn’t care then see how much he cares about owning an expensive metal paperweight on his ramp that nobody rents. In fact, if the sch...

Re: Any near miss stories?

Have to say the addition of ADS-B in/out has made a big difference. Good to see many targets on the screen many with altitude, squawk, and even N#, flight #, and transponder code. Altitude and climbing/descending trend is really useful, such that you can maneuver appropriately especially if the othe...

Re: Airplane selection opinions

FNG here; would value your opinions on several aircraft, or nominations for any I haven't considered. I'm a PP/SEL instrument rated, under Basic Med now because it's just more convenient. Also a member in a club with a 'travel' equipped 172 (AP, G530, Powerflow, EIS, etc.). So, I don't need IFR cap...

Re: Airplane selection opinions

I came close to choosing the SkyCatcher and the Legend Cub because of the 200A engine, and I think the Legend had the 200D. Good reliable engines with maintenance available about anywhere. Empty weight is key with an LSA especially if you intend to fly regularly with a passenger. Choosing options, i...

Re: Airplane selection opinions

I have 550 hours now on a Rotax 912ULS and have found that it’s an incredible engine. It starts first time for me, warm or cold, gets an oil change every 50 hours using E-10 premium auto gas, and fuel burn is 4.8 to 5 gph based on actual burn. Oil useage is negligible. On another site a guy recounte...

Re: Rotax burping sound

I always remove the oil tank cap before burping less air pressure to the tank and the gurgling sound is louder. Just my technique. I can't imagine that there is much pressure restriction in the 5/16" breather line, especially with the volume of air that is being pumped into the tank. Maybe not...

Re: Insurance rate shocker

I haven’t had the same experience.
Two years ago my premium was $1305 through
AOPA.
Last year I renewed for $815, same coverage through AOPA.
I just renewed with them again for $815
through AOPA till July 2020.
