Re: Safety Implications of Kinetic Energy

Thanks, Don. In fact, when I grow up (unlikely to ever occur, given that it hasn't yet happened at 68), I want to be just like your dad! Yes Paul... I think we both have the same wish - and are still flying Young Eagles at 93 years young (94 in June). His Skycatcher is still doing well for him also...

Re: LSA Weight waivers?

As one who has designed, built, and tested aircraft, I am in complete agreement with Paul. As for my opinion, the waiver should be denied and they should be thrown into Part 23 if they want to go forward. VR.. Don

Re: Remos GX - First Impressions

Appears the seat question has been answered - push the handle aft to unlock the outer seat mechanism, rotate up, and pull out. If I recall, it has three positions. The skylight has been an issue, i.e.. adhesive failure and loosing skylights in flight. Remos says add four screws, need to reseal also....

Re: Remos GX - First Impressions

Sorry to hear about your Remos experience (the bad stuff)... Had mine for 4 years now, never leaked water, gauges are accurate, yes - seats are adjustable, and I can fit an overnight bag and set of golf clubs in the baggage compartment behind the pilot seat. Every design is a compromise, Remos inclu...

Re: Members

I joined this forum about 3 1/2 years ago and found helpful information regarding LSA maintenance. I have learned to ignore the self proclaimed experts, ego kings, and one with a pocketbook as big as his mouth. There are many members who are intelligent seasoned owners/pilots who pass along helpful ...

Re: List of E10 (ethanol blended) approved aircraft

Note on Remos GX - According to the factory - ""From SN 378, aircraft are factory equipped with a fuel system that is resistant against the effects of ethanol". Aircraft with earlier SN’s can be retrofitted. The fuel tank is not resistant to the effects of ethanol prior to serial numb...

Re: J-3 Cub pilot report

Reza, Great story about your first Cub experience - brings back many good memories of growing up on Flabob airport. Had the opportunity to fly a J-2 (40HP) and the 50 and 65 HP versions of the J-3. Your experience rings true of the basic simple airplane. The Flabob old timers always had a set routin...

Re: Six ADS-B Myths Dispelled

I don't see any special disregard directed at Light Sport Aviation from the FAA. I think they manage to hold everyone in equal disregard. They are, indeed, an equal opportunity abuser. Agreed Paul... Had my fill of their abuse when I was finishing the Babybird... At that time, FAA Inspector came fo...

Re: Six ADS-B Myths Dispelled

Latest article... Congress Enraged by the FAA’s $40B White Elephant http://a.msn.com/00/en-us/BBeHw77 In my case, I have Class C airspace 30 mile north and routinely fly into LAX's 30 mile zone now requiring Mode C and requiring ADS-B Out in 2020. On OXR, estimate 1 out of 4 owners are considering A...

Re: Six ADS-B Myths Dispelled

While we haven't seen a recommended retail price from Appareo yet (for their ADS-B Out partner to the Stratus), I expect that product will be one likely example of how the marketplace is responding to the mandate, both in equipment and installation costs. And as Paul's statement illustrates, many o...

Re: Impossible Turn Was Impossible

You bring another good point to the discussion. You are trained/experienced in aerobatics . Most guys are not. And to assume one can expect to make the 180 turn back at low altitudes (well below pattern altitude) is a crash waiting to happen for the average guy.. The hesitation time alone is enough...

Re: Impossible Turn Was Impossible

OK - Time for my two bits again.... This impossible turn discussion has gotten interesting… The fact of emergency turns/landing has much more to do with pilot skills and what you are flying than the hypothetical altitude for the engine failure. This forum is about light sport aircraft and the fligh...
